Motor Tax – Procedures for declaring that a vehicle is not being used in a public place

From 1st October 2013 owners wishing to declare that a vehicle is not being used in a public place and so incur no liability for payment of motor tax must do so in advance by completing Form RF150 – Declaration of Non-Use of a Motor Vehicle.

Owners who wish to declare that their vehicle will be off the road from September 2013 can do so during the month of September by completing form RF150 and submitting it to their local motor tax office.

Owners wishing to declare that their vehicle will be off the road from October 2013 must make a declaration during September by submitting Form RF150 to their local motor tax office.

Owners whose vehicles have been off the road can still make a declaration in a Garda Station using Form back in use, or declare the vehicle off the word from the start of September using Form RF150.;  The completed Form RF150 must be with your local motor tax office by close of business on 30th September 2013.

After 30th September 2013, it will not be possible to have your signature witnessed at a Garda Station to declare that a vehicle has been off the road using form RF100A.  Persons wishing to tax their vehicle or to declare that it will be off the road for a period into the future, after 1st October 2013, will be obliged to pay all arrears of motor tax due.

Further details on these changes are available from www.environ.ie or www.motortax.ie or from your local motor tax office.  Details are also available on how persons out of the country in the period to 30th September 2013 or are too ill, or for another bona fide reason are unable to attend in person at a Garda Station to have their signature on Form FR100A witnessed, may have the form completed with the assistance of a friend or relative.
